Details: IRCO is hosting our 5th Community Needs Assessment Conference which will be held October 2, 2010. These conferences are key to community-based programming which empower self-sufficiency of refugee populations in Oregon. The goal of this year’s conference is to assess the need of each of the newly-arrived refugee communities as well as the more established refugee communities and collaboratively develop cohesive programs to address these needs. The Shaping Our Future Conference objective is to create a framework for community development for refugee populations of Oregon by assessing and prioritizing their needs for successful integration. Another crucial element of the Conference is the participation of local and national officials, policymakers, and service organization representatives.

The conference will offer an opportunity for refugee communities to assess and prioritize their needs, listen to local, state, and national policymakers, network with established refugee communities, and learn about existing resources. The participation of policymakers deepens their understanding of the communities’ needs, strengthens the relationships between policy makers and community leaders, and educates the communities as to what services are available.
